Swing low Sweet chariot/Steal away
Arranged by R. Johnson
(African-American Traditional)

Steal away, steal away,
Steal away to Jesus!
Steal away, steal away home,
I ain’t got long to stay here

Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin’ for to carry me home,
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin’ for to carry me home.
Comin’ for to carry me home…

Steal away, steal away,
Steal away to Jesus!
Steal away, steal away home,
I ain’t got long to stay here

Reference

The composer of these spirituals was Choctaw Freedman Wallis Willis around 1862; an inspirational figure who rose above the hardships in his life, leaving a legacy of songs that still inspire countless people.
Although these two songs are not lullabies in the strictest sense of the word, they are wonderfully comforting to both mother and child.
