    On Wings of Song – music about birds and nature The prolific bird life and beautiful landscapes surrounding the village of Wakkerstroom is the inspiration for this concert. Whenever bird-song is imitated in music, the flute comes to mind. Soprano Gretel Coetzee (Blaas op die Pampoenstingel, Wakkerstroom Music Festival 2015) collaborates with well-loved flautist Handri Loots and pianist from Windhoek; Ebbie Becker; to present songs about nightingales, larks, green valleys, trees and nature. Music by Saint-Saëns, Delibes, Brahms, Schumann, De Villiers and Barber.

  • Many Tribes, One Nation - a concert by YONA and friends 03 Oct 2017 20:00 to 21:00

    The youngsters of YONA (Youth Orchestras of Namibia) have been learning string instruments, percussion and recorder since March 2017. At this concert they will perform Tangeni learns – a song cycle by Engelhardt #Unaeb as well as a selection of Namibian and German folk songs. The programme will conclude with a prayer for peace, sung and played by YONA and friends. YONA is a movement with the vision of social change through music. The members of YONA hail from diverse backgrounds, and one of YONA’s goals is to foster unity within the rich diversity of Namibian society. This concert is also a way of thanking our sponsors, RMB, through the FNB Namibia Holdings Foundation Trust, as well as the German Embassy in Windhoek and the Goethe-Institute Namibia, whose donation of 15 violins and 2 Cellos will be presented at this concert. Die jungen Musikschülerinnen und –schüler von YONA (Youth Orchestras of Namibia) lernen seit März 2017 Streichinstrumente, Schlagzeug und Blockflöte. Am 3. Oktober werden sie dem Publikum „Tangeni learns“ – ein Liedzyklus von Engelhardt #Unaeb präsentieren. Darüber hinaus kann sich das Publikum auf eine Auswahl namibischer und deutscher Volkslieder freuen. Am Ende singen und spielen YONA und Freunde ein Gebet für den Frieden. YONA ist eine soziale Bewegung mit dem Ziel, die die sozialen Verhältnisse mittels Musik zu verbessern.
